Diarrhea is common in children. It is very different from a saddle a little softer than usual, which would require only a simple monitoring. It occurs alone or is accompanied by various disorders, such as bloating, digestive disorders or stomach upset. It can be accompanied by vomiting. But it is to watch because it can irritate the fragile skin of baby’s bottom. If it is often cured quickly, in the most severe cases, excessive water loss can lead to dehydration in babies.
Causes of diarrhea
90% of diarrhea in young children is benign and due to a diet problem: too much protein, too much fiber, too much sugar and too much fruit juice.
How does diarrhea occur in babies?
The stool of the newborn is frequent. They differ depending on whether the child is breastfed or bottle-fed. In general, a breastfed baby will have yellowish, rather liquid stools. A bottle-fed baby will have light brown, thick stools. Stool may occur after each meal. But if they become smelly, streaked with mucus and very liquid, then we can talk about diarrhea. It is accompanied by a weight loss of the child. Fever can occur, especially if baby has gastroenteritis. Baby can have diarrhea for many reasons. Poorly prepared baby bottles, dental flare, food allergies, bronchitis or otitis can provoke it. Benign, it disappears, usually with the other symptoms.
What if my baby has diarrhea?
If your baby has more than two days of diarrhea, go to your doctor or pediatrician. Especially if he refuses to drink and vomits everything he swallows. Indeed, diarrhea causes losses of water but also of salt. This double loss causes dehydration. Similarly, if the baby has a fever, if he has blood in his stool, if his belly is swollen and painful. In case of diarrhea, the number of stools should be monitored and changed regularly. A protective cream may be applied on the buttocks in anticipation of possible irritation . Diarrhea can cause dehydration. This has serious consequences. This is why it is necessary to regularly drink your child and monitor him.
What treatment for diarrhea in my baby?
Diarrhea can be caused by rotavirus. This one cause gastroenteritis. Your doctor will prescribe anti-diarrheal and a rehydration solution. If your child is older than 6 months, you can give him crushed bananas, apples, cooked fruits, rice, ham and carrot puree. And above all, you have to drink it. Avoid high-sugar drinks (fruit juice) and soft drinks. Sugar promotes diarrhea by drawing water into the intestines. However, fruit or vegetable juice (diluted carrot juice, for example) cut with water may be proposed. If your child accepts feeds and solid foods, do not stop giving them, even if you have gastroenteritis. Exclusion of milk and dairy products is only recommended in cases of severe gastroenteritis for which there is lactose intolerance.
