How to Hire a Life Coach?

Posted by

There comes a time in our lives where we feel trapped. Whether it is in our relationships, finances, careers or simply because we are not as happy as we would like. Sometimes it is difficult to get to the place where we really want to be. Even so, even when we have difficulties, many of us would not consider hiring a person to give us a push and guide us. But why does that happen?

All Olympic athletes who go to the Olympic Games go with a coach. And that’s because a coach will be your animator, your inspiration and will make you responsible. Even more, these are the coaches who finally find the right techniques to make the athlete take off to the next level.

Of course, most of us are not Olympic athletes, but certainly we all need a coach, at least at some point in our lives.

If there is an area in your life where you feel dissatisfied, a life coach will be there to believe in you, press you and show you the way. Every good football team has a really good coach. And that coach does not go out and play, but he’s making calls. That’s what life coaching is for. You already know what to do, but you need someone to believe in you. And you need someone to tell you when you’re running the wrong way.

So, how does everything work? Here are some important things to keep in mind when hiring a Life Coach.

A life coach can help with almost anything.

Either you feel that your life is a complete disaster, if you are going to divorce, if you have been recently fired or you are 20 kg overweight, basically anything. It can also be as simple as needing a mentor or wanting someone in your life to hold you accountable and help you to achieve a specific goal.

A life coach helps when your friends can not

Many people turn to their friends in difficult times and that is incredible. We were put on this earth to share and connect with each other. Even so, friends are busy and have their own problems and friends are not always prepared to act as mentors or coaches. They have their own biases and sometimes have their own agendas. They want us to stay as we are because there is a fear that if we change, friendship can change. A coach, on the other hand, is an impartial entity that is trained to ask the right questions that you might not think to ask yourself.

The training and therapy are different

Therapy is for recovery and coaching is for discovery. Of course, we could all benefit from both, but it is good to make a distinction when we try to find out which route we want to follow.

You have to listen to yourself to decide if you should look for a coach and when to do it.

For the most part, it’s just a feeling. You are seeing stagnation in your life and you are thinking: ‘I have tried for so long and it just is not working’. When you reach that point of frustration, when the pain becomes greater than complacency, it is when you should look for a coach.

A life coach is not there to tell you what to do

A life coach is there to identify the challenges and goals and discover what it is that keeps you from getting where you want to go. Everything evolves by really looking at what is happening in your life. Ask yourself the appropriate questions, such as;

How do you spend your time?
What do you want?
Where are you right now?
Why do not you have it?

The job of a professional is to discover that last part: the why. And then provide the tools to break old patterns and move in the right direction.

It is not the responsibility of a Coach to tell you what work you should get. You have your inner wisdom. A good coach will help you discover what you want to do, what stops you and what you need to work on to get where you need to go.

A life coach is not a commitment to life

The job of a Professional Trainer is to determine the areas of your life in which you need help, and then improve them. That you become dependent on the sessions is not what you are looking for. That is why some coaches work for 10 sessions and no more. Self-sufficiency is sought. Although it may take time to get rid of old habits and some people need a more thorough job to meet their goals.
